Sports Medicine

Many people choose to participate in athletics. Some are professionals whose physical performance is their livelihood; many are students who pursue sports in conjunction with academics; and others are avid amateurs who participate in sports for recreation and physical fitness. All athletes with different skill levels, different motivations and different goals share one need--a fully integrated, comprehensive sports medicine program that can be tailored to each athlete's goals.

Unfortunately, injuries that occur as a result of athletic competition have become common among today's active population. At Clarian Human Motion, our philosophy is to provide all athletes--professional and recreational--with the same high-quality level of care.

Our dedication to keeping the athletic community healthy and active is apparent in our comprehensive sports rehabilitation programs. In addition to providing specialized assessment and treatment for sports-related injuries, our clinical team is actively involved in educating athletes, coaches and parents about injury prevention and recognition. We believe that educational programming is integral to our success, and by providing programs to the community that teach proper strength building, flexibility, conditioning, endurance and training techniques, we can help minimize the risk of injury occurrence.

Concussion Management

Concussions are one of the most common sports injuries among athletes. Too often, athletes are returned to play before the brain has had the chance to heal completely. This can lead to devastating consequences including disability or death if an athlete suffers another blow to the head. Clarian Human Motion recommends all sports teams adopt a concussion management program that will allow its athletes to take a baseline test to measure their neurocognitive functioning. Then, after a concussion, the test can be retaken to monitor the healing process.

Clarian Human Motion has partnered with the Indiana Sports Concussion Network to implement the ImPACT Concussion Management Program at every high school in Indiana. To help with this, Clarian Human Motion has sponsored the program to ensure that all high school athletes can take a baseline test at no cost to the student, the parent or the school.

Clarian Human Motion is committed to the health and well-being of every Indiana resident and actively supports programs that encourage children and adults to keep moving everyday, believing that such activity can prevent many musculoskeletal problems, such as joint pain.

To find out more about the ImPACT concussion management program, visit their web site at http://www.indianasportsconcussionnetwork.com. Many high schools are currently offering the  ImPACT test to their athletes. If you would like to take the test on your own, you can do so for $5 per test, by visiting Methodist Sports Medicine / The Orthopedic Specialists and clicking on "ImPACT Test Login" on the left side of the page. Be sure to share your test results with your family doctor, athletic director or coach.
