Being a new parent is an exciting time, but it can also be overwhelming. Knowing ways to meet your baby's needs can reduce anxiety and be a comfort to you and the baby. It is important to know how to respond to your baby when he or she is hungry, wet or just fussy.

Clarian Home Connection

The first few days with your newborn are exciting and often overwhelming. To answer the questions you have after leaving the hospital, we provide a follow-up home visit to mothers who deliver at either Indiana University or Methodist hospitals. If you deliver at another facility, we can arrange home visits for a nominal fee. A few days after you arrive home, an experienced registered nurse will visit. The appointment will last 60-90 minutes. The nurse will examine you and your baby, conduct newborn tests and discuss topics such as:

• Home safety
• Pain management and medications
• Newborn feeding
• Breast care
• Emotional issues
• Sex and birth control
• Rest, activity and exercise

Your nurse will discuss this appointment with you while you are in the hospital and then call you after discharge to schedule a time for your visit. The visit is provided free of charge. If you have questions, call us at 317-962-3514.

Expressions, A Store for Women

Located on the Methodist Hospital, IU Hospital and Clarian North campuses, Expressions, A Store for Women provides new mothers with the supplies and support they need to give their newborn the best possible care.

Expressions gives new mothers a convenient place to purchase items such as:

• Nursing bras
• Other nursing apparel
• Breast pumps (also available for rental)
• Educational books
• Preemie clothing

With certified lactation consultants available by appointment, Expressions is an excellent resource for women who need assistance in learning how to successfully breastfeed and for those who have questions about pumping.

Expressions, A Store for Women, can be found in Room A3304 in the Methodist Maternity Center at Methodist Hospital, and in Room 2658 on the Mother-Baby Care Unit at Indiana University Hospital. At Clarian North Medical Center, the store is located in the main atrium or visit our online store.
