What is Dialysis?

Dialysis (also referred to as hemodialysis) is one treatment option for patients with end stage kidney failure. In hemodialysis, an "artificial kidney" removes waste and other excess products from the blood, which helps regulate the body's electrolytes and fluid status. If a patient's condition is too unstable for hemodialysis, hemofiltration is performed in the hospital's ICU.

Who Benefits from Dialysis?

Patients in either chronic or acute renal failure (end stage kidney failure) benefit from hemodialysis/hemofiltration treatment.
