In partnership with the Indiana University School of Medicine, Clarian Health continues as a preeminent leader in research — finding the breakthroughs that make a difference in patients' lives.
The Indiana University School of Medicine conducts a broad range of basic, translational and clinical research in order to improve health, prevent disease, better train physicians and provide the foundation for Indiana's life sciences economy.
Life sciences research is the key to better treatments for diseases such as cancer and diabetes, which affect Indiana's citizens at higher rates than most states. It also means developing better ways to help people stop smoking, eat better and exercise more in a state where smoking and obesity rates are among the highest in the country.
The Indiana Life Sciences Initiative will educate more physicians to handle the state's growing health care needs. The initiative will also boost research efforts at IU and Clarian, giving scientists the resources they need to make new discoveries and take these discoveries to the marketplace.
Based on the Methodist Hospital campus, the Methodist Research Institute (MRI) is a not-for-profit institution wholly owned by Clarian Health. MRI, a research institute nationally and internationally renowned, conducts basic, clinical and outcomes research aimed at improving hospital patient care.
MRI investigators conduct a variety of research, including research in cardiovascular disease, neurologic disease, cancer, molecular nutrition, organ transplantation and hypothermic tissue preservation. The fact that MRI scientists are physically located on the Methodist Hospital campus and routinely interact with practicing clinicians, creates a fertile ground for the translation of basic science knowledge into clinical research, clinical outcomes evaluation and hospital practice improvement.
